Welcome to Maties Dance Society

Welcome to the home of the Maties Dance Society! We are a social society focused on teaching ordinary students the art of Ballroom and Latin American Dancing, with classes to cater for all dancing needs, levels and abilities.

Whether you are a Gold level dancer or have never danced before, we have a class for you.  Taught by a highly qualified and capable instructor, Gladys Bullock, we ensure that your classes will be exciting, rewarding and above all, fun.

Intervarsity 2014

Intervarsity will take place at the University of Cape Town this year. An experience that is not to be missed, so get your name on that list. There will be signup opportunities at every class. Keep an eye on this space for mare information.

About MDS

Being a social society, we are much more than just dance classes! We host many functions and social events during the year, ranging from a Formal Ball to Sokkie workshops and braai & karaoke evenings.

Stellenbosch students are known for being able to Sokkie, but we take this one step further by teaching the art of Ballroom and Latin American dancing to everyday students who have absolutely no dance experience. Joining Maties Dance Society is a great way to have fun, meet new people, get some exercise and learn a life skill that you'll use for many years.

About Gladys Bullock
"Super Mom"

Some say, she knew how to dance before she could walk...

47 years of dance experience, 12 years with Maties Dance Society, 29 years of instructor experience, 24 years of adjudicating experience... Need we say more?   See you on the dancefloor!

The Commitee

The MDS Committee's job is mainly to make sure that the overall running of the Society is efficient and effective. We are responsible for booking halls, paying Gladys, collecting membership fees and other general administration.

However, the Committee's job doesn't stop there! We also organise many functions and events, and co-ordinate with other Universities about our main event, Intervarsity.   The Committee also assists Gladys in class, and there will always be a "Comm" member available to help you either with dance or any other society-related problems you might have.

Overall, the "Comm" is there to ensure that when you join MDS, you are guaranteed to get the maximum benefit out of your membership!

We are now taking applications for two Portfolio's on the 2014 committee.  Socials & Events Coordinator and Marketing & Media Manager. Click here to download the application form.   Applications deadline is on 17 March 2014.
